Ariana had a birthday party this weekend (Aug 1st 2008). She invited 10 girl friends. They all seemed to have a great time. When the girls first arrived they worked on making a frog craft and then a bracelet. Next the girls moved outside to play several games. To keep with Ariana’s love of outdoors and bugs we tried to keep a lot of the activities around that theme. They played a game called “Insect Olympics”. Each of the girls had to search for a bug of their choice. After they gathered up their insects they put the bugs in a small circle and cheered them on as they raced to the outer circle. Ariana picked a daddy long legs so she won 1st place. Her spider finished the race in 4 seconds. Unfortunately, for those potato bug lovers, not such a good choice for this competition. The girls also participated in an “Expedition supply Piñata” Ariana and Emily made this cute rescue package with supplies (candies) using a grocery bag. The girls also had a “Reptilian Roundup” hunt in the backyard. They divided themselves into 5 teams. Each team searched the back yard for all of the fun plastic snakes, bugs and centipedes they could find in the dark using a flashlight. Later the girls came inside for a little karaoke and a few more games. Then they headed back outside to play “Gray wolf”. Once they wore down, and I thought the neighbors might appreciate a little quietness, we came inside for cake and ice cream. We started the movie around 11:00pm and finally after 1:00am I told the girls it was time to go to sleep. Of course you had a few protest that they were not tired but this old mom was ready to go to bed and was getting a little ornery by the lack of cooperation from the girls. Luckily they settled down and feel asleep and stayed a sleep until about 7am. I got up, made some German pancakes and let the girls watch Saturday Cartoons. The party ended a little after 9am. It really was fun. They are at such a fun age. I am thankful Ariana has so many wonderful friends.
