Rome (Civitavecchia) Thursday Day 5

The "Rome in 1 Day" was a challenge and we had to try to concentrate on the "greatest hits" itinerary by taking in the (barely) still standing monuments that made Imperial Rome feared throughout the known world and St. Peter’s as well as the Vatican. Highlights of our trip:

Roman Forums Julius Caesar Forum 

Spanish Steps ,  Trevi Fountain 

Navona Square  Circus Maximus , 

The Appian Way  The Theatre of Marcellus 

The Bath of Caracalla  The Pantheon 

Our visit to the Vatican Museums was about an hour and a half long.  We were able to tour amid breath-taking masterpieces only found in the Sistine Chapel. 
Next we went to St. Peter’s Cathedral. 
It was a day I definitely will never forget.  I couldn’t believe the history we were able to see in one day. Once day was definitely too brief, after all, Rome wasn't built in a day, and you can't see it in one -- but we made the most of our limited time.  By the ride home, most of us were sleeping like babies.
